Interview every applicant
before you interview anyone.
A journey is a short, structured pre-interview that every applicant takes on their phone. Knockouts, skills, video answers, culture fit and references, scored against your criteria and ranked for you.
Anatomy of a journey
Build it once. Every applicant takes it.
Put the steps in the order you want. Each job can have its own journey, or reuse one across similar roles.
Knockout questions
Must-have questions that end the journey politely when a requirement isn't met.
Skills checks
Question pools, shuffling and grade bands, with integrity signals while people answer. Coding answers get an AI code review.
Video answers
Candidates record answers on any device. Add a recorded or AI-generated interviewer to ask each question.
Culture check
A short quiz built from your values, scored for fit.
Documents and references
Collect licenses, certificates and reference contacts in the same flow.
Emails and score gates
Send emails on a delay, and move people on by score so the right ones reach your team.
Scoring
Scored on your criteria, not a black box.
Every answer is transcribed and scored against the guidance you write for that question. Scores roll up into one overall score, and score gates use it to move people on.
Evidence next to every score
Each score sits beside the answer and transcript that earned it, in one report.
Tuned to your team
Set how strict scoring is for your organization.
People stay in charge
Override any score. Corrections feed back so scoring learns what your team values.

What is a candidate journey?
A candidate journey is a short, structured pre-interview that every applicant takes before anyone books a call. It can include knockout questions, a skills check, recorded video answers, a culture check, documents and references. Each answer is scored against your criteria, so you get a ranked list with the evidence behind it.
How long does a journey take a candidate?
You decide. Most teams keep it short (a few knockout questions, a handful of skills questions and two or three video answers) so it fits comfortably on a phone. Candidates see their progress the whole way through.
Do candidates need to download an app?
No. Journeys run in the browser on any phone or computer, including the video answers.
How does scoring work?
Each answer is transcribed and scored against the guidance you write for that question, then rolled up into an overall score. Your team can override any score, and those corrections help scoring match what your team values. People make the hiring decisions.
Can we write our own questions?
Yes. Write your own, have AI draft questions for a role, or start from a template and edit it.
How do journeys fit with the rest of the ATS?
Journeys are part of the InsightHire applicant tracking system. Results land on the candidate record and in the review queue, and top scorers can be invited to an interview automatically.

- 1. A typical recruiter phone screen runs 15–30 minutes. Add scheduling and notes and it's about 30 minutes a candidate, or roughly 12 candidates in a 6-hour day. Reviewing a scored InsightHire journey report takes about 3 minutes, or about 120 candidates in the same day. Your numbers will vary. Source ↩
